WEEK 8 - Activity 1
There are a lot limitations that can be a setback towards your career-planning, such as financial stability and assessing "practical" choices. An example of this was when I was thinking of pursuing music. I was so persistent in wanting to become a musician, which made it harder for me to swallow what my mom told me, "You should think more practically. Are you sure that singing can provide enough money?". I know that pursuing art, even music, still has a lot of stigma, since people believe that most graduates become "starving artists". Although I didn't really believe in that, I still had to let go of that dream. Then, I had assess what my other interests are, and that was when I decided that I want to pursue Psychology or Zoology in the future.
For me to decide on pursuing those fields in science, I had to assess what my core values are. Since I value passion and selflessness, I thought that pursuing a career in doing what I love, such as my love for psychology and animals, would help me focus and become more determined to do better work. Then, I had also assessed how practical these choices are and after a ton of research, I can get a good-paying job in the field if I ever did choose Psychology/Zoology. I also had to look into my personality traits, in order to assess whether these fields are suitable for me, which was right. Although I am still unsure on which career path is the one for me, I found that being able to pursue a career that interests you is the best choice, despite sacrificing several choices.
