WEEK 5 - Discussion

Discussion question

What important take away did I learn in this lesson?

I learned that it is important to choose the right people who will surround me in my everyday life as they will affect how I grow as a person. My mom and my grandmother are some of the people who continue to influence me as I grow up. Despite being a single mom and being able to support e by herself, she taught me that asking for help isn’t always a bad thing. Being independent is essential for survival, but when you ever feel like you can’t do it anymore, you can always ask for help from the people who matter to you the most, since they will always be there for you. My grandma taught me that you should always be kind and accepting to everyone, despite encountering problems with some of the people in your past. It doesn’t have to be only be your family, you can also surround yourself with your friends, teachers or basically anyone who you can look up to. Surrounding myself with these kinds of people encourage me to become a better person and doing good every day.

I also realized that you shouldn’t be afraid to cut off the toxic relationships you have with other people, as this can hinder you from improving yourself. I learned that it is important to surround yourself with “real” people, as they are the agents of socialization that help you improve yourself into a better person. In this case, they will help me discover more about myself and learn more about the world we all live in. For example, choosing people who are for the progress of the community, such as community leaders, you may be inclined to become more involved in doing activities that are for community development. However, if you surround yourself with people who have bad habits, there are chances that you would also gain these habits, which will become bad.
