WEEK 8 - Activity 2

 

    After Senior High School I want to pursue a career on Psychology and/or Zoology because I want to pursue a career where I truly enjoy my work. First, I wanted to pursue a career in Psychology because I was driven by my goal to end stigmas on mental health, especially here in the Philippines. Although we are already progressing into a society that is aware of the existence of mental health, still the topic of that is a bit taboo, since a lot of Filipinos are still uneducated, and also because we have inaccessible health services to it due to the lack of psychiatrists/psychologists and that it can cost a lot. Because of that, I wanted to call for better mental health awareness and accessible health services by becoming a psychiatrist/psychologist. My other career choice is to pursue Zoology because of my love for animals. I have always wondered about how and why animals live in a certain situations. Since being a zoologist means that I can work across the globe, I wanted to do research while being able to experience different cultures.

    In order for me to become a successful zoologist or psychologist/psychiatrist, I need to have the ability to work independently, since in these fields, being able to work alone is essential, alongside working in a team. I also need to possess a strong emotional intelligence and determination. I need to always be professional in front of colleagues and/or patients to make me respectable and approachable, which are also essential. Being an effective communicator is also crucial in becoming successful since I would be able to present and share my studies and analysis clearly.

    After reading the module, I realized that career-planning takes a lot of trial and errors, wherein these trials come from factors that may affect your planning. Being able to assess your life decisions, personality traits, core, values, etc. are very crucial in planning for your future. However, I learned that your views on which career path to take can change, so it is important to be open towards change and criticism, as it will not only help us in career planning, but also in growing as individuals. 

    To become successful, I need to assess all the steps in pursuing my career. For me to achieve my goals, Ii must maintain consistently good grades and study hard (maybe even have additional readings on the topic). I would also want to save money and think of a source of income to help relieve my mother with the financing my studies and survival. I will also join organizations that align and support my advocacies in order to understand my passion better.
